Drinking water precaution

Published July 29, 2009

DEL RIO, Texas -- The City of Del Rio experienced a loss of water pressure overnight due to a waterline break in the City's water distribution system. As a precautionary measure, all residents and businesses on Laughlin Air Force Base and within Del Rio's water supply are advised to take the following precautionary measures until further notice:

1. Boil any drinking or cooking water for two minutes prior to consumption.

2. Practice water conservation and limit nonessential uses of water.

Again, these are precautionary measures. This does not mean that the drinking water is contaminated, precautionary measures are simply being taken due to the low water pressure the system experienced. The boil water alert will be in effect until a bacteriological survey shows that the water is safe to drink at which time the boil water alert will be rescinded by the City of Del Rio. It takes a minimum of 30 hours to get the results of the test. The city has activated Stage 1 of our Water Conservation Plan until Laughlin and Del Rio reach normal conditions in the water distribution system. Stage 1of the Water Conservation Plan asks for base members and Del Rio residents to practice water conservation and limit nonessential uses of water.
