Walmart: A grand re-opening

Published October 28, 2009

In case you haven't noticed, Del Rio's Walmart has changed.

Walmart employees, customers and guests celebrated those changes with a re-grand opening held at the store, 2410 Dodson Ave., early today.

Store manager Maria Elena Garcia and Walmart Market Manager Travis Bailey thanked everyone for attending the re-grand opening. Among the local elected officials attending the ceremony were Val Verde County Judge Mike L. Fernandez, Del Rio Mayor Efrain Valdez, Val Verde County Commissioner Precinct 2 Roy Musquiz and Val Verde County Sheriff Joe Frank Martinez.

During the ceremony, which began with the posting of the colors by the Jesus M. Limones Jr. Post 595 Honor Guard, the Del Rio Walmart management team presented nine checks for $1,000 to the following: Del Rio High School Music Department, Friends of Val Verde County Library, the Casa de la Cultura, the Del Rio Council for the Arts, the city of Del Rio, Val Verde County, the Del Rio Fire and Rescue Department, the Del Rio Police Department and the Val Verde County Sheriff's Office.

The ceremony ended with Shannon Lynch and the store's management team leading the crowd in the traditional Walmart cheer and the equally traditional cutting of the red ribbon, organized by the Del Rio Chamber of Commerce Red Carpet Ambassadors.
