Summer programs touch 4,420 in the library
Published August 17, 2008
Summer Reading programs began in June and continued through the Olympics at the Val Verde County Library. The number of children alone involved in library programming totaled 2,781. All of the numbers were phenomenal because the number of offerings was incredible!
June had 43 programs touching 2,038, July had 54 programs touching 2,082, and the eleven August Olympics programs will probably touch over 300.
All three Monday performers offered a morning children's program, afternoon YA workshop, and evening Family Fun Night. MaryAnn Blue saw 305 children, YAs and adults; The Bee Lady attracted 313; and Mr. Puppet brought in 408!
These numbers reflect children, teens, and adults attending the June and July Summer Reading Clubs, Olympic Adventure Clubs, TTR.08 Teen Reading Club, Books4Lunch'nMore, 1st Thursday Book Club, Daycare Visits to the Library, and Family Fun Nights.
All of this was made possible through funding by the Val Verde Community Foundation, Hochheim Prairie Farm Mutual Insurance, Wal-Mart, Dollar General, and the Friends of the Val Verde County Library. Thank you to all of them from the bottom of all of our hearts!
This has been an amazing summer here at the library. Sadly, we are losing Kat Rawald as our Children's Librarian because her husband is going to Iraq. But we sure do have a great model to work with for next summer!
