Brackett clinches district volleyball title
Published October 29, 2009
The Brackett Tigerettes are now the two-time District 28-1A volleyball champions.
Brackett sealed the district title Tuesday with a four game win over D’Hanis. That win came on the heels of a three-game win over Comstock this past Friday.
Brackett finished district play 9-1. By virtue of winning the district title, Brackett has earned a first-round bye and won’t play its first playoff match until sometime between Nov. 5 and 7 at a site to be determined. Their opponents will be the winner of the bi-district match between the runners-up from District 25-1A and the third place team from District 26-1A.
Brackett’s win over Comstock came with nearly identical scores. The Tigerettes won game one 25-11, won game two 25-15 and then won game three 25-11.
Cheyenne Billings led the team with 17 assists while Nena Molinar led with eight kills and tied with Katryna Swilley for aces with one. Paige Nowlin led the team in digs with seven.
The win over D’Hanis was a little tougher for Brackett.
Brackett won the first game 25-16, but dropped game two by a score of 25-22. The Tigerettes then had to fend off D’Hanis in games three and four, winning both by the score of 25-23.
Billings had a big match, finishing with 39 assists. Molinar had 17 kills and an ace and Nowlin finished with 14 digs.
